Vulnerability - Self Portrait

Isolated by an impenetrable wall, in a solitary kingdom of splendorous slaves. Weakness sure is the greatest fuel for a desire of power.

This is the first of a three painting series I did in school. We had to do a self portrait, so I based mine on a doodle I did in my sketchbook during theory class.

I'm not that used to traditional painting, so I'm very proud and happy with this piece. Wings sure were a load of work, but I think it was worth it.
My teacher didn't like it at all, and wanted to convince me not to show it in the expositions because it was "too much in my usual style", but I said "screw you" and still showed it. (I didn't actually say that to him)

This isn't an idealized self portrait by the way. It speaks about my comfort zone and distance towards reality in a negative way. You may have noticed, but the white wings make a reference to the celestial beings, angels and those around the throne of God, which in my perspective, it's something far from positive. Angels are the lowest beings in the universe; blind but splendorous slaves; the swords of a tyrant which gave up on their conscience.
