Hello watchers and curious people.
This will just be a journal to update you a bit on my personal life, so that you know why sometimes I'm active and sometimes not, and what to expect from me uploading here in the future. College
First and most important thing, is that just recently (literally found out 20 minutes ago) I got accepted in college! OMG
I'll be attending to university, an art school in Mexico City known as "La Esmeralda"
, and it may seem absurd, but apparently I begin on monday.
College is a time sucker, but I'm sure I'll manage to stay active here. It is an art school, so I'll probably upload some artworks made on class, or things like that, as I also try to keep on going with my own projects. I've done so even while working, so I don't see why college would be much harder than two simultaneous jobs with crazy deadlines. Sketches
Talking about work, yesterday was my last day working on some big project that involved going to a studio. Those are the best jobs, even though they're really tiring, specially if the trip back home takes so much time because the subway is too crowded.
Anyway, the thing is that since I hadn't had any time to upload new things, I did set up a schedule for various drawings to upload here in my scraps gallery. Many are a year old, and some are pretty new. If you like sketches, check them out :>
Now, on to something probably more exciting for you, and certainly for me! Webcomic ProjectI'm working on a webcomic
, more like in the preparation phase; I am designing characters, writing down ideas and mayor plot events, doing tests and some other things.
I don't think you'll get to see it soon, but this is just to let you know I'll be working on something you'll be able to see someday.
The webcomic, as some of you already know since I've commented on it before, is about my characters Donaji and Itzcacalotl
, taking place in mesoamerica, mostly prehispanic Mexico.
More than anything, I want to have fun with it, so I hope you have a nice ride whenever you get to read it. Animation Short
This webcomic isn't coming here that soon, I actually think I may start it in Fall 2015
, BUT, I do have a couple more projects that I'm gonna work on and hopefully finish for the end of summer.
Both are animations, one is a pretty short funny animation about Astaroth and Beelzebub: Animation Project
Besides that, I'm also working to bring you a project I did back in 2014, Donaji & Chicahualizteotl's Magic Poncho
. It was an "animated-interactive book" for a contest I didn't win. However, since it is a series of .swf files linked together with actionscript, I have no idea of how or where to upload it, that's why I want to make it into an animated version in video format, with no interactivity.
I'll take this chance to improve on some things I didn't quite like of the original version, and to add some new content, such as voice acting
(even though it'll be hard to find the actors since I want them to speak a native language).
Most of the animation is done though, and also the music, which was done by the extremely talented musician
Here are some pieces of animation I've extracted from that animated book, to get you hyped and show what I'm talking about:
I'll get to work on it just as soon as I finish the other short movie.
These are kinda old news, but still worth mentioning. Daily Deviation
I got a Daily Deviation
a while back! I did never expect it to happen, but I'm still very grateful for it! Many of my current watchers may be reading this because of it
It's been almost half a year since this, but I did a really fun Art Trade
with the amazing artist nosuku-k
We both love aztec themes, so I got to draw her characters Ahuizotl and Tlacaelel, while she did a beautiful piece of my characters Donaji and Chicahualizteotl.
This doesn't mean I'm open for art trades right now though, I just wanted to share this one since it was so fun. I have my hands full with work for my future projects, gotta finish a job soon, and I'm starting college soon, so like always, I'm busy busy.
DeviantArtist Questionnaire How long have you been on the DeviantArt?
8 years already! Even though I created my account on December 6th 2006, I actually started using it somewhere around April 2007. What does your username mean?
Shi-Gu is a name I made up on 4th grade, when I was around 9 years old. That's how I called my "guardian demon", as I hated the idea of having a guardian angel. That's the origin of my character Shi-Gu (The blue demon with red eyes):
He is the oldest character from my main story, I invented him even before my own impersonation in that same story. I chose his name as my username before, when I joined Newgrounds in 2006. I just liked the name, and even though most people know me now as Shi-Gu, story and character-wise, I'M NOT Shi-Gu.
Later I found out it is some word in chinese, but I didn't know back then and still don't really know what it means. Describe yourself in three words:
Dreamer, melancholic, shy Are you left or right handed?
By definition, I'm ambidextrous, since I do tasks with the two different hands, but I only use my left hand to draw and write. What was your first deviation?
A drawing of myself as what back then I called "The Lord of the Crows", now I just call it Obsidian Crow or just Crow. It is SO OLD! What is your favourite type of art to create?
I'm not sure about that. I really enjoy drawing high contrast traditional art with ink, be it with a brush or pens. However, I also really like doing Digital Art, since I prefer to add colors that way. And I love animation as well, even though it takes some time to do and is many times just frustrating when something goes wrong.
As for style, I've developed my own style throughout the years, and even though I should probably experiment a lot more with other styles I know I can handle, mine is the one I enjoy the most. I don't create to prove anything to anybody, so I just do what I like to do whenever I feel like doing it. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
Without a doubt I would love to master landscape painting and background drawing. What was your first favourite?
I have absolutely no idea!
but I'm pretty sure it was most probably some fanart from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. I was obsessed with it back in the days I started using deviantART. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
Lately I fave things that inspire me or that I think I could use as references to improve my own style and techniques. But mostly I like cool character designs by different artists. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
There are so many of them! I don't think I could mention them all, but I guess Ilya Kuvshinov
are probably at the top of my list. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
I don't know, I'm so shy I probably wouldn't even know what to say :0 How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
Well, some of the people I've met here have become close life-long friends to me. I've met a few of them. I went all the way to Iceland to meet my good friend Arnór
, and on my trip to England I met my bro Val
(Arnór joined us as well).
Some other people have taught me so much about art and always improving, while some others have been amazing supporters and shown me what uninterested friendship is.
People here really impact on my life, since my time spent here has been an important part of such life.
There has been some bitterness too though. What are your preferred tools to create art?
Depending on the piece I'm doing, but for the most part I sketch with pencils, ink with a rechargable brush or pen. I use Photoshop for digital drawings.
Flash, Maya and After Effects are my preferred tools for animation. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
My bedroom. That's where I always work, even though I do get inspiration by traveling on the city, on the subway, etc and listening to music. Truth is, there's not a specially inspiring place for me to work. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
I don't have a specific favorite memory to be honest, but I do have a happy memory of a time in which I used to be a lot more active, and a lot of friends, both online and in real life, used to interact in here with me as a big community. Even more before Facebook became popular.
That time is long gone, as most of the people I used to talk to back then, but I'm still glad I did hold onto this account hahaha!
Another great memory is getting a Daily Deviation! Even though that wasn't so long ago! XD
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEVIANTART!#deviantartistquestionnaire
